Stars: 4Philips Go Gear Vibe

Sound is excellent, lightweight. Easy to use for music. Not used video player but screen a bit too small to view pictures. Good value for money.

Stars: 3Uncomfortable headphones

The product is good overall but the software provided along with doesn't work, you cannot download videos with it, and gives error. I tried searching all over the net for resolving it but no success. Also, the headphones are uncomfortable, after wearing for longer hours your ear starts paining, they should have provided with some kind of cushioned earphones. The screen seems to be too small to view videos. Sound quality is perfect and the amount of memory is also good. In short gadget is perfect but software and headphone is a bit pain.

Stars: 5Nice

No complaints except the usual with the packaged ear buds, get some decent comfortable ones. The GoGear is easy to load with music and easy to use, what more do you want.

Stars: 3Mixed thoughts on the Gogear

Firstly, I own this mp3 player, the Sanza Clip+, a Diamond Rio, A creative Zen and briefly an Ipod. In other words, I have sampled a great number of the Mp3 players available, and while this Philips Gogear is above average it is just not as good as the best which is, at the time of writing, Sandisk's Sansa Clip+.

Plus points -

Battery life is over 20 hours from one charge which is brilliant.

Sound quality (with my Grado cans) is pretty good.

Its size is smaller than a matchbox's and almost as light.

Has a voice-recorder (but you'll need to be within 2 metres of the player for it to pick up the sound) and FM too. Bad points -

You have no choice but to use Windows Media Player 11, which sucks as I would far rather have dragged an dropped files and bypassed the W.M.P. Bulls... So, because songs are converted to some proprietary format from mp3, you can't just browse the folders on the device and simply swap songs in or out (like you could on all the first generation of mp3 players) unless they are converted first by the bloatware known as W.M.Player 11 (and no, it won't allow you to use earlier versions). This WMP insistence is a big drawback to me.

Battery, once it's used up, it's throw the player away time, as it's completely irreplaceable.

Songs cannot be separated, on playing them back, by genre (so if you're in the mood for only classical songs you'll have to put up with your rock tracks etc every few songs and manually fast forward)

Its shuffle mode is extremely primitive - I wouldn't count on the RNG in this thing even to shuffle a pack of cards - it's that poor at shuffling.

No memory expandability!

Conclusion: I'm left undecided as to whether the bad points make it still worthwhile, when the Sansa unquestionably beats the Philips. Anyway, please do decide and judge for yourself whether you don't mind the minuses. Shame though, as it could have been nearly perfect with just a few changes.

Is Philips listening to us?

Stars: 4Brilliant little device!

My Creative Zen MP3 battery finally gave up the ghost - no replacement available so had to replace whole thing. I chose this Philips device based on reviews and have no regrets. It's small and neat, has much better battery life than the Zen ever had and also much, much better sound quality. It took a while to work out how to transfer CD's on to it because I made the mistake of trying to follow the instructions in the manual. Don't bother - they're confusing and irrelevant. All you need to do is rip the CD to your Windows media library then sync to the device. I doubt I'll use the video as I mostly use the device to listen to CD's while I'm working in the garden or out walking but it's a nice option to have. The radio on this device is pretty good as well.
All in all, extremely good value for money and I would have no hesitation in recommending it.
